ABOUT AFCA TASTE OF HARVEST

The AFCA Taste of Harvest (TOH) program is an annual high end specialty coffee grading event which culminates from the different AFCA member countries; Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia to a regional African Taste of Harvest competition held during the African Fine Coffees Conference & Exhibition each year. This prestigious coffee cupping competition aims at identifying and selecting the absolute best coffees from each origin across the entire coffee value chain from crop to cup. The Taste of Harvest competition is followed by a state of the art online auction system, managed by Bean Auction, to showcase the work of improving coffee quality and standards through promoting the specialty lots and as a result trade at record breaking market prices.

TASTE OF HARVEST SUCCESS STORY

During the coffee recession in 2013, AFCA continued implementing programs to improve coffee quality and trade in Africa. Despite this period, the AFCA Taste of Harvest flagship program featured an increase in sample entries as well as qualities submitted. DRC Congo submitted their first sample to be cupped and graded and this year AFCA carried out a second annual Taste of Harvest event in DRC to promote their late fly crop as well. AFCA Taste of Harvest has established a leading platform in eleven member countries thus far to evaluate, identify, catalogue, showcase, promote and trade coffees internationally on a new streamlined, state of the art AFCA Taste of Harvest portal and online auction system. Malawi, Zambia and Uganda has had resounding success hitting record-breaking prices for their specialty coffee over this platform, and as a result Uganda will have the first Robusta Taste of Harvest in partnership with AFCA this year.
