AfriCert is a private certification company established in Kenya in 2004 and accredited for product certification for the EN 45011 (ISO 065 revised to 17065 in 2014) in 2005 by the German Accreditation Service GmbH, DAkkS. In 2012, AfriCert got an additional accreditation for the SAN Sustainable Agriculture Standard (SAN/RA) by the International Organic Accreditation Services IOAS dba SESAC.

africert-image-3field-inspection-photoAfriCert has grown its range of certification and inspection from the initial 2 in 2005, to its current portfolio of eight accredited and approved inspections and auditing standards. These are: GlobalG.A.P, 4C- Common Code for the Coffee Community, SAN/RA- Sustainable Agriculture Network/Rainforest Alliance, ETP- Ethical Tea Partnership, LEAF Marque, CMiA – Cotton Made in Africa, BCI – Better Cotton Initiative, and Albert Heijn. More recently, AfriCert successfully applied and received provisional approval for CAFÉ certification for coffee. AfriCert now conducts CAFÉ certification in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi. Furthermore, a strategic partnership with Kenya Bureau of Standards now enables us to extend our services to cover IS022000/FSSC 22000, ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and other trading Standards.

AfriCert has the capacity to deliver turnkey certification solutions through a combined audit process for different standards in effect saving the client some cost through reduced audit time savings.

Relevant Experience

Our success has enabled us expand our services to more than 14 African countries. In addition to Kenya, we serve Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast. For its West Africa services, AfriCert established an office in Accra, Ghana in 2010.

africert-image-2-field-audit-photoAfriCert offers certification services beyond auditing against compliance requirements in a checklist. We add value to the businesses that we work with, because we believe it’s only through this approach that compliance with voluntary standards can become a tool for promoting sustainable farming in Africa.

It is noteworthy that our Operations Manager is currently a member of the Sustainable Agriculture’s standard Committee, giving AfriCert leverage in standard development as well as a platform for articulating the producers’ perspective.
